Women's Basketball: 2007-08 Schedule Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – West Virginia University and the BIG EAST conference have announced the 2007-08 WVU women’s basketball schedule.

The Mountaineers will face 12 teams that competed in postseason play last year including eight squads that qualified for the NCAA tournament and the two participants in last year’s national title game (Tennessee and Rutgers).

On the year, WVU has 12 home contests including visits from the Scarlet Knights, Notre Dame, Louisville, Marquette and DePaul. WVU has 17 contests away from the WVU Coliseum, including two tournaments in late November and early December, highlighted by trips at Indiana, USF and Connecticut. WVU’s home-and-home is with rival Pitt.

WVU has two contests this season in Charleston, W.Va., at the Charleston Civic Center; the Mountaineers take on defending national champion Tennessee and Marshall.

“We have a very competitive schedule,” WVU coach Mike Carey said. “Our non-conference schedule is highlighted by playing Tennessee in Charleston and playing at Indiana.

“We have a lot of seniors on this year’s team so we felt comfortable with having a lot of non-conference away games. Most of those teams will return those games here next season when we’ll have such a young team. And we have a well-balanced BIG EAST schedule. Every night will be tough in this league and every game is always competitive. We’re excited for this season.”

This season, WVU returns all five starters from its 21-11, 11-5 squad that advanced to the 2007 NCAA tournament’s second round and finished fourth in the BIG EAST. Senior All-America guard Meg Bulger also returns after sitting out the last year and a half with a knee injury.

Game times will be released at a later date.
